Craft description:
Sextant:
Imagine being lost at sea with no phones, GPS, or modern tools, how would you know where you are? A sextant is a traditional navigation instrument that uses mirrors and a small telescope to measure the angle between two objects, usually the horizon and the sun or stars. Sailors used it to figure out their position on Earth. This project introduces the fascinating history of navigation and helps learners understand how angles and measurements connect to real-world survival.
Net Making:
If you were stranded on a deserted island or floating on a lifeboat, what skills would you need to survive? One of the most important and often overlooked is knot tying. Knowing the right knot at the right time can help you build shelter, make a net for catching fish, or secure vital supplies. This hands-on project explores basic knot-tying techniques, showing how simple skills can make a big difference in a survival situation.
Seaside Postcard:
The ocean is full of different environments, each with its own creatures and mysteries. In the sunny coral reefs, you’ll find colourful fish and bustling life, like an underwater city. But in the deep, dark ocean, far below the surface, it’s cold, quiet, and full of strange, glowing animals. This postcard-making activity combines art and science, letting learners create a unique seaside design while exploring the wonders of marine life.
