Craft description:
Griffins:
Did you know the oldest known griffin-like creature appears in ancient Egyptian art from before 3000 BCE? These early depictions showed four-legged, beaked creatures, but they didn’t yet have the familiar lion’s body or eagle’s head we often associate with griffins today. This griffin activity lets children explore the evolution of mythical creatures across cultures while getting creative with their own designs.
Catch a Leprechaun:
In many legends, leprechauns aren’t the quiet, solitary shoemakers we usually imagine. Some tales describe them as mischievous, social creatures who live in lively communities and even throw wild parties filled with music and laughter! This leprechaun craft invites kids to imagine, build, and decorate their own leprechaun traps or scenes, blending folklore with fun hands-on creativity.
Thunderbirds:
The Thunderbird is a powerful supernatural being in Native American mythology, often described as a giant bird connected with storms, rain, and lightning. According to tradition, the beating of its wings caused thunder, while lightning flashed from its eyes or beak. With this Thunderbird project, children can learn about Indigenous storytelling while crafting their own version of this awe-inspiring creature, combining culture, myth, and creativity.
